MUSICOMMONS? What the hell is it?
On 19 August, in a cozy and nice live bar in the Apgujeong area in Seoul, Creative Commons Korea (ccKorea) will host the first Creative Commons Salon (ccSalon) in the country. The theme of the event is ‘MUSICOMMONS? What the hell is it?’. The main discussion of the event will be around the topic ’sharing music’, although a good party is also expected to take place too.
The highlight of the ccSalon is a conversation session between ‘Pigheadskin’, a Taiwanese remix musician and a Creative Commons commoner, and ‘ChoPD’, a Korean remix musician who is familiar with Creative Commons (CC). They will talk about what sharing music is all about within the industry, and what hurdles musicians face in attempting to share music. Both musicians are quite popular in Taiwan and Korea respectively, and gladly agreed to have a joint-concert session after their talk. CC colleagues from Taiwan and Japan will join the event, and if you can make it to Seoul, you are all welcome too!
The cooperative scheme between Creative Commons Taiwan (ccTaiwan) and ccKorea was started at the iCommons Summit in Rio, where a discussion was held about collaboration within the Asia region. ccKorea is trying to work with professional musicians who are tired of long and unfruitful arguments and conflicts around sharing music within the music industry. ccTaiwan however, provided an excellent example with the success of Pigheadskin who effectively released an album under a CC license. Straight after the iCommons Summit, ccKorea invited Pigheadskin to the first ccSalon in Seoul, with the sincere support of ccTaiwan.
