And now a ccSalon in Amsterdam

ccSalons around the world, by Daniela, CC BY 2.5Creative Commons Salons have been held in San Francisco, New York, Warsaw, Seoul and Johannesburg, and now the city of Amsterdam will host its very own ccSalon too.

The first Dutch ccSalon will kick off on Wednesday 13 December at 20:30 in ‘De Melkweg‘ Amsterdam and will be focused on music and sounds.

The evening will start with an interesting talk by the Italian ’stand-up’ sociologist Sergio Messina about ‘How to Write a Song and Go to Jail.’

If you haven’t been detained by the local authorities after Sergio’s talk you can enjoy the presentation by Sara Kolster and Derek Holzer of Soundtransit. This project combines the passion of field recordings with the adventure of travelling. Go on a virtual sound tour by selecting a point of departure and your destination, along with a number of stopovers. An itinerary will be created in the form of a sound file, which gathers sound recordings from your different destinations. At this time of year, this is the best way to enjoy an aural holiday from your comfy chair. No check-in required.

After this refreshing trip we will continue with the sounds of Luxembourg. Sylvain Zimmer, one of the founders of Jamendo.com, will give a talk about this music distribution platform.

And we won’t just be talking about music ‘ we’ll be hearing music too! The Dutch Utrecht-based post-rock combo We Vs Death will enlighten and entertain us with their music, which they describe as: “Brass meets strong rhythm and guitars. A dusty sound reminiscent of bigger cities in summer, not to be found in Holland at all.’

We Vs Death also took part in the Creative Commons Netherlands CD and DVD, a project that gathered Dutch musical and visual creative talent, which I wrote about for this site, here. The CD/DVD will be released during the evening.

And the final pièce de résistance: Togetha Brotha Soundsystem will bring back the summer with their mix of dub, reggae and dancehall! A great night is to be had, if you’re in the area, please join us. For more information see the ccNetherlands site.
